4.2-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Xinjiang, China; No Damage Reported

At 3:19 PM IST, Xinjiang had an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 that left little damage in its wake; officials are still keeping an eye out for aftershocks.

The National Center for Seismology (NCS) announced that late Thursday afternoon, a minor earthquake with a Richter Scale value of 4.2 struck China’s Xinjiang province.

The epicenter of the earthquake, which struck at 3:19 PM IST, was 10 kilometers deep and located at latitude 37.26° North and longitude 75.15° East.

The NCS confirmed the earthquake on X (formerly Twitter) by posting:

Although there have been no reports of casualties or property damage, officials are nevertheless keeping an eye on the situation in case anything changes.

Similar tremors have previously occurred in Xinjiang, which is located in an area that is seismically active because of geological processes. In the event of an aftershock, residents are urged to exercise caution and adhere to safety procedures.
