Lipstick Threat Triggers Second Security Scare at Kolkata Airport

Another security alarm surfaced on Saturday evening after a suspicious message was discovered in the restroom of a Dibrugarh-Kolkata flight, according to officials cited by PTI.

This came hours after an IndiGo flight headed for Shillong was grounded owing to a bomb threat that was ultimately determined to be a fake.

Following a safe landing at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport at 7:37 p.m., IndiGo flight 6E 6894 was promptly transferred to the isolation bay in accordance with security procedures. According to the statement, every passenger disembarked safely.

The phrase was discovered inside the airplane restroom and was purportedly scribbled with lipstick, “suggesting a bomb threat,” it said.

A jet headed for Shillong was detained at the Kolkata airport for about four hours earlier in the day after a bomb threat was made. Following the discovery of a handwritten message alleging that a bomb had been planted on the aircraft, IndiGo flight 6E 7304 was sent to the isolation bay.

Following a comprehensive search and routine security procedures, the flight left for Shillong at 1:33 pm after the threat was later determined to be a hoax.

Around 9:15 am, or 15 minutes prior to the flight’s planned departure, one of the crew members discovered the message in the aircraft’s restroom, according to an Airports Authority of India (AAI) spokeswoman, PTI said.

Following the safe disembarkation of the passengers, the aircraft was transferred to the isolation bay. According to PTI, he claimed that the authorities involved carried out a comprehensive inspection and that standard security procedures were followed.

The AAI spokeswoman stated that the aircraft was deemed safe for operations after completing all safety inspections and receiving approval from security officials.
