During Day 4 of the AI Impact Summit on Thursday, ChatGPT made fun of the embarrassing moment that occurred between Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman when they were on stage.
Shortly after announcing the AI Impact Summit is results and inviting all of the leading IT executives to join Prime Minister Modi on stage, the incident took place.
PM Modi then urged tech leaders to raise their hands in an attempt to start a symbolic chain of togetherness. The majority of the leaders complied, but there was an awkward moment when Altman and Amodei, standing next to each other, raised separate clenched fists instead of holding hands.
The picture swiftly gained popularity and was interpreted as a sign of the escalating competition between Anthropic and OpenAI. An altered version of the photo has now been shared by ChatGPT’s official account, showing Amodei and Altman holding two huge, flaming red lobster claws in place of their clenched fists.
Why did OpenAI upload a picture of hands that looked like lobsters?
Although the ChatGPT handle did not explain why the hands resembled claws, it might be a subliminal reference to one of Altman’s interviews from the previous day.
Altman had told reporters about the embarrassing incident on Thursday, “I had no idea what was going on. When Prime Minister Modi took my hand and held it up, I was a little perplexed and unsure of our intended activity.
Then someone said, “I assumed it was the OpenClaw.”
Earlier in the year, OpenClaw, an open-source platform, gained widespread popularity. Days before the summit, Altman had declared that Peter Steinberger, the company’s inventor, would be joining. Currently, OpenClaw is a project under the ChatGPT creator.
Before being employed by OpenAI, Steinberger disclosed that the project’s previous moniker was “Clawdbot,” but it was changed after Anthropic’s legal team contacted him.
How is the viral post affecting netizens?
One user on X commented, “Modi ji introduced the Desi negotiation strategy: no handshakes, only claw-shakes.”
Altman and Amodei are incapable of even seeming to shake hands. OpenAI is unable to even pretend to care about its users. Another user said, “Name a more iconic couple.”
Another person added, “Well, you guys might have used your own software lot better, like this…! 😉,” along with an AI-generated picture of Altman and Amodei holding hands.
