Modi in Israel: Jerusalem Post Front Page

The Israeli publication Jerusalem Post has featured Prime Minister Narendra Modi on its front page in advance of his two-day visit, which starts on Wednesday.

It is PM. Prior to his counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to India the following year, Modi made his first trip to Israel as prime minister since 2017.

Zvika Klein, the newspaper’s editor-in-chief, shared the front page of today’s edition, which included feature articles about the PM’s visit to Israel and India-Israel relations, along with a picture of him raising his hands.

“Welcome, Modi,” was one headline; “New Delhi’s blossoming connection with Jerusalem” was another.

Following an agreement between Israel and Hamas in October of last year on a ceasefire controlled by the “Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict,” this is also PM Modi’s first visit to Israel. India joined over 100 other countries last week in denouncing Israel’s West Bank expansion.

“Over the past five years, ties have become much stronger. PM Netanyahu and I will meet to talk about how to improve collaboration in a variety of areas. In his farewell remarks, Prime Minister Modi stated, “I will also see President Isaac Herzog, President of Israel.”

“The Modi doctrine”

Another article in the Jerusalem Post, “The Modi philosophy and India’s developing friendship with Israel,” essentially tells the story of how Modi’s rise to power and his subsequent support for Israel represent “a significant change” from India’s past.

India voted against the creation of the State of Israel at the UN in 1947, and New Delhi continued to be one of the most vocal supporters of the Palestinian cause for forty years. However, Modi did not stop by the Palestinian Authority during his 2017 tour, according to the newspaper.

In 2017, PM Modi broke decades of diplomatic hesitancy by becoming the first Indian PM to visit the Jewish state.

“largest English-language daily”

Published since 1932, the Jerusalem Post is Israel’s largest English-language daily. The Jerusalem Post Group, a media organization under the management of Israeli entrepreneur Eli Azur, is the owner of the Jerusalem Post. Through his business, Mirkaei Tikshoret, which still owns and runs the newspaper today, he purchased it in 2004.

The Jerusalem Post cited JP Singh as saying, “He will be the first Indian prime leader to address the Knesset, which will be one of the most crucial features.” In an interview, the Indian envoy to Israel discussed the importance of PM Modi’s scheduled speech to the Knesset. Singh referred to the speech as an Indian prime minister’s first.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit. With the Pentagon deploying its armed forces in the area, the visit coincides with growing tensions between the United States and Iran. Iran’s nuclear program is the subject of new negotiations between the US and Iran scheduled for Geneva on Thursday.

What plans does PM Modi have for Israel?

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Prime Minister Modi will meet during the visit. The two leaders will examine the noteworthy advancements in the India-Israel Strategic Partnership and talk about future prospects in a number of areas of collaboration, such as innovation, trade and economics, agriculture, water management, science and technology, and people-to-people interactions.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog will also receive a call from PM Modi. The two nations’ long-standing strategic alliance will be reaffirmed by this visit, which will also provide a chance to discuss shared issues and refocus efforts in the direction of realizing their mutual goal of a strong alliance between two strong democracies.

When Netanyahu first announced Modi’s visit, he called the Indian prime minister a “close friend” and emphasized the two nations’ increasing strategic convergence.

“Together, we are constructing an axis of nations devoted to stability and progress,” he continued, referring to both wider geopolitical coordination and collaboration in emerging technology.
