A major LPG cylinder shortage in Jamshedpur has raised concerns over Ram Navami celebrations, especially affecting the preparation and distribution of bhog (prasad) for devotees.
The Jamshedpur Central Ram Navami Akhara Samiti has reported a severe scarcity of cooking gas cylinders needed to prepare bhog (prasad) for devotees, raising concerns about how the city’s Ram Navami festivities would go.
LPG Shortage Threatens Ram Navami Celebrations
Arun Singh, the president of Samiti, met with Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi and informed him of the circumstances. He said that providing bhog to Ram devotees is a long-standing and highly respected custom that many akharas follow throughout the celebration.
But according to reports, local gas companies failed to guarantee the organizers’ supply of LPG cylinders this year, posing a significant obstacle to the practice’s continuation. Singh emphasized the need for the district government to step in and make gas cylinders more accessible at fair prices.
Demand for Government Intervention
In order to accommodate their needs, he asked that smaller akhara committees be given three cylinders, while larger committees be given at least five. “It would be impossible for organizers to sustain the practice of distributing prasad to thousands of devotees if timely help is not offered,” he said.

Singh called attention to the impending end of the Gangaur celebration on March 21 in addition to the problem with the gas supply. Women from the Marwari community are organizing the event, which will end at Sakchi’s Subernarekha river ghat.
