After winning the third match in Chattogram by 55 runs, the Bangladeshi national cricket team defeated the New Zealand national cricket team 2-1 in the ODI series. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mustafizur Rahman led the hosts’ impressive all-around effort.
Bangladesh achieved a respectable total of 265/8 when batting first. Litton Das added a fluid 76, while Shanto anchored the innings with a calm 105, his first ODI century since 2024.
Bangladesh recovered from an early collapse to 32/3—thanks to Will O’Rourke’s tight bowling—thanks to a vital 160-run stand between Shanto and Das. Towhid Hridoy’s (33) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s (22) contributions helped raise the score to a manageable level.
New Zealand responded with a steady start but was unable to sustain its pace. Despite Nick Kelly’s 59 and Dean Foxcroft’s aggressive 75, the squad was ultimately bowled out for 210 in 44.5 overs. With an outstanding five-wicket haul (5/43), Mustafizur Rahman destroyed the middle and lower order and turned the game around.
With a victory in Mirpur earlier in the series, New Zealand had grabbed the lead, but Bangladesh rallied to tie the series and win it in the decisive match. The triumph demonstrates Bangladesh’s increasing stability and power at home.
Now that the ODI series is over, both teams will concentrate on the next T20 International series, which will also take place in Chattogram.
