Thailand’s army said on Monday that new border confrontations with Cambodia had resulted in the death of a Thai soldier and the injuries of several others. Both sides blamed each other for the most recent outbreak of violence along their border.
Thai army spokesperson Winthai Suvaree stated in a statement that “the Army received information that Thai soldiers were assaulted with supporting fire weapons, resulting in one soldier dead and four wounded” during early Monday morning firing by Cambodian troops on Thai forces in Ubon Ratchathani province.
Maly Socheata, a spokesperson for Cambodia’s defense ministry, stated that early on Monday morning, Thai soldiers attacked Cambodian troops in the border districts of Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchey. She added that Cambodia has not responded.
