According to Bloomberg, Apple is apparently getting ready for CEO Tim Cook‘s impending departure, with hardware manager John Ternus being his most probable successor.
Apple Prepares CEO Transition
According to reports, tech giant Apple is planning to replace current CEO Tim Cook, who is said to be retiring. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg said that Apple has apparently started the transition process and that the company’s top executive is getting ready for a leadership change in the near future.
Following Steve Jobs’ resignation, Tim Cook became leadership of Apple on August 24, 2021. Cook has led Apple for more than 14 years, so his exit, if and when it occurs, would be one of the biggest upheavals in tech business leadership in recent memory.
Mark Gurman also said that Apple had already appointed John Ternus, the company’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, to succeed Cook. Since joining Apple in 2001, Ternus has played a significant role in the firm, managing the designs of all of its main products, including the iPad, iPhone, and Macs. In 2021, he assumed the role of vice president.
What Made Apple Select John Ternus?
The selection of Ternus as a potential successor to Apple’s CEO comes as other candidates are withdrawing from the race for a variety of reasons. Former COO Jeff Williams, who was a strong candidate to replace Cook, departed the business in July 2025.
Former Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri and former Marketing Chief Phil Schiller have remained with the business in less prominent positions. Although they were first considered as potential successors, the corporation apparently wants to switch to steady leadership, which they feel departing executives cannot provide.
Apple Strengthens AI Leadership
According to reports, Apple’s senior vice president of machine learning and AI strategy, John Giannandrea, and Johny Srouji, the executive behind the company’s proprietary A-series and M-series CPUs, were also involved. According to reports, the business aims to give Giannandrea a more significant position in the AI department, while Srouji is apparently “considering his future.”
According to reports, it helped Apple acquire Ternus, a 50-year-old who is heavily ingrained in the business and was Tim Cook’s age when he took over in 2011.
