BCAS Seeks GSTR-3B Deadline Extension Amid Diwali Holidays

In order to preserve the integrity of return filings, the representation looks for “administrative relief” for taxpayers. The Bombay Chartered Accountant Society (BCAS) has asked the government to think about deferring the September 2025 GSTR-3B reporting and payment deadline till after the Diwali vacations.

Diwali Clash Prompts Appeal

Citing a conflict with the Diwali holiday, the Bombay Chartered Accountant Society (BCAS) has sought the Union Finance Ministry to extend the deadline for submitting GSTR-3B reports till September 2025. Right following Sunday, October 19, during the main holiday week when offices nationwide are closed, is the current statutory deadline of October 20, 2025.

Businesses, accountants, and GST experts have a “very constricted compliance window” due to the reporting date and Diwali celebrations colliding, according to BCAS’s October 8, 2025, representation. It is challenging to finalize and submit taxes on time during this period since the majority of businesses are closed.

Festive Break Limits Compliance

Taxpayers use the GSTR-3B, a simplified summary form, to report their monthly GST obligations and to make legitimate claims for Input Tax Credits (ITCs). Reconciling sales and purchases, analyzing ITC in accordance with GSTR-2B (available after the 14th of each month), and obtaining cash for tax payment are all crucial processes in compiling this return, according to BCAS.

Employees and corporate professionals have a limited number of working days to complete these tasks since the festival begins just before the deadline. BCAS pointed out that the biggest Diwali festivities take place from October 19 to October 23, which causes many offices all throughout India to close.

BCAS Urges Administrative Relief

The organization urged for an extension to guarantee correct and timely filings without penalizing taxpayers, stating that “the effective compliance window is almost non-existent given that the statutory due date overlaps with national holidays.”

If approved, the extension will relieve thousands of professionals and taxpayers from the burden of complying with regulations during one of India’s most important holiday seasons. The request has not yet received a response from the Finance Ministry.
