Bihar Election Commission Issues Notice on 3 Lakh Voter IDs

Three lakh persons, the most of whom are probably from Bangladesh and Nepal, have had their citizenship questioned by the Election Commission in the special review of the Bihar voter list.

These persons are required to submit citizenship paperwork by September 25th. According to the Commission, these individuals are from the districts of Madhubani, Kishanganj, Purnia, Katihar, Araria, Supaul, East Champaran, and West Champaran.

The image is starting to take shape. The Election Commission had received preliminary information about the improper registration of numerous foreign individuals’ names in the state’s voter list prior to the start of Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.

Three Lakh Names Questioned

Three lakh individuals on the draft list have had their citizenship questioned by the Election Commission. They have now received notifications requiring them to provide proof of citizenship. Senior Commission officials believe that the majority of them are probably from Bangladesh and Nepal.

According to reports, these three lakh individuals were located in eight districts of Bihar, and investigations are ongoing in the other districts.

Three Lakh Notices Issued

They identified three lakh individuals from these areas. According to some estimates, their numbers might rise much further. These three lakh people are now in the districts of East Champaran, West Champaran, Madhubani, Kishanganj, Purnia, Katihar, Araria, and Supaul.

The Election Commission said that the three lakh individuals who have received notice must provide proof of citizenship by September 25th in order for there to be a final determination on these issues.

The Election Commission has eliminated 65 lakh individuals from the list of voters.

Final Voter List Deadline

The commission has set a deadline of September 30 for the publication of the final voter list. In accordance with this timetable, the draft list is being subject to claims and objections. It is important to note that the commission has already removed over 65 lakh individuals from the voter list during the revision. These included voters who had moved, individuals who had registered their names in two different locations, and voters who had passed away.

Among the political groups, CPIML has reportedly been active up until the day prior, filing 79 objections and requesting the addition of names.
