The 15th vice president of India, Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan, took the oath of office on Friday, September 12, 2025. The 67-year-old Mr. Radhakrishnan took the oath of office from President Droupadi Murmu this morning at a short ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Mr. Radhakrishnan, wearing a red kurta, swore in the name of God in English. By a margin of 152 votes, Mr. Radhakrishanan defeated B Sudershan Reddy, the joint opposition contender, in Tuesday’s vice presidential election.
The then-incumbent Jagdeep Dhankhar abruptly resigned on July 21 owing to health concerns, which made the election necessary. In addition, Mr. Dhankhar made his first public appearance since resigning as V-P at the ceremony.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP President J.P. Nadda were among those in attendance. Former vice presidents Hamid Ansari and Venkaiah Naidu were present for the occasion.
