Early on October 19, metro service will begin on the Pink, Magenta, and Grey Lines.
To accommodate the increase in passengers, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has established additional schedules ahead of the approaching Diwali celebrations. Services on the Pink, Magenta, and Grey Lines will begin an hour earlier at 6 am on Diwali eve (October 19) rather than the customary 7 am. The DMRC said on X that on Diwali day (October 20), the final metro train from terminal stations along all lines would leave at 10 p.m., and normal schedules will resume for the remainder of the day.
A joyous flood of traffic
During the event, traffic jams have grown commonplace in a number of metropolitan locations. These days, there is a lot of traffic in the vicinity of well-known market locations. The Delhi-Gurugram NH-48 flyover, Pragati Maidan, Mathura Road towards east Delhi, Outer Ring Road, Netaji Subhash Place, and Madhuban Chowk in Pitampura all saw significant delays on Wednesday. Traffic on the roads close to Jamia Millia Islamia was also sluggish.
Senior police officers blamed the snarls on a combination of business commutes and holiday shopping. Key choke sites have seen the implementation of measures to reduce congestion.
Employees of the traffic police have had their leaves canceled. There are more than 2,000 employees on duty. Special CP (Traffic) Ajay Chaudhary was reported in an Indian Express story as stating, “Motorcycle patrols has been intensified across the city, and additional cranes have been stationed near Lajpat Nagar and Sarojini Nagar marketplaces to remove automobiles from no-parking zones.”
To guarantee smooth travel throughout the holiday season, authorities have advised commuters to plan their trips ahead of time, take use of Metro services where feasible, and abide by traffic laws.
