DGCA Summons Air India Over Boeing 787 Dreamliner Safety Issues

According to reports, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), an aviation regulator, has asked Air India to provide an explanation for using a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner in spite of several mechanical difficulties.

DGCA Identifies Issues with Dreamliner VT-ANI

The DGCA identified many problems with Dreamliner aircraft VT-ANI in a show-cause notice this week. According to reports, the notification also included a flight on June 28 of this year that did not comply with the Minimum Equipment List (MEL).

During the operation of flights AI 258 and AI 357, the regulator brought up safety issues related to aircraft dispatch, compliance with MEL regulations, and flight crew decision-making. Both firms run flights from Delhi to Tokyo, however the precise dates of these flights were not immediately verified.

Air India’s Response and Aircraft Status

According to sources, the DGCA observed that the aircraft was flown in spite of previous knowledge of recurring mechanical issues and system deteriorations. When asked about the issue, Air India did not reply. Additionally, it was not immediately apparent whether the aircraft VT-ANI was no longer in service.
