For further information, see Foxconn’s official response. The corporation denies investing Rs 15,000 crore in Tamil Nadu.
A day after State Industries Minister TRB Rajaa said on social media that the business has committed Rs 15,000 crore and 14,000 jobs in the state, Taiwanese electronics maker Foxconn stated on Tuesday that it has not discussed any fresh investment with the Tamil Nadu government.
Foxconn stated in an official statement that Robert Wu, the company’s recently appointed India Representative, spoke with the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Office and his staff. There was no discussion of fresh investments at the meeting.
Rajaa made the explanation after describing the company’s ambitions as a record-breaking commitment for Tamil Nadu’s engineering workforce in a post on X (previously Twitter).
“Tamil Nadu’s largest-ever #engineering #JobsForTN commitment! #Foxconn pledges 14,000 high-value employment and Rs 15,000 crore in investments! Engineers, prepare! On X, Mr. Rajaa wrote.
According to the minister, in order to expedite permissions and guarantee “mission-mode execution” of the project, the government will establish a special “Foxconn Desk” at Guidance Tamil Nadu, the State’s investment promotion organization.
The desk was characterized by state authorities as a one-stop facilitation unit to expedite approval processes and streamline implementation. Mr. Rajaa noted that R&D integration and AI-driven advanced technology operations will be part of Foxconn’s next phase of value-added manufacturing in the State.
However, the Foxconn statement implied that Mr. Wu’s meeting with Chief Minister M.K. Stalin did not result in any new promises. Regarding whether earlier investment plans in Tamil Nadu are still on track, company executives could not provide any details.
After Foxconn’s remark, the Tamil Nadu government did not provide a supplementary explanation.
