Govt Clamps Down on Airfare Surge Amid IndiGo Chaos

Due to the inconveniences caused by the continuing IndiGo crisis, airplane ticket costs have skyrocketed to unbelievable heights. The Center has instructed all airlines to carefully adhere to the newly recommended rate ceilings.

The Civil Aviation Ministry’s directive, which sought to shield travelers against “opportunistic pricing,” issued a warning that any increase in fares above the established standards would result in swift action.

“During the current disruption, certain airlines have been charging exceptionally high tickets, which the Ministry of Civil Aviation has taken seriously. All airlines have received an official mandate requiring them to strictly adhere to the now-prescribed fare limitations.

FARE SPIKE IN INDIGO CHAOS

According to the government, the price controls will be in place until the situation completely stabilizes. The biggest low-cost airline in India, IndiGo, has had to cancel more than a thousand flights in recent days due to its inability to adjust personnel rosters in response to the new Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) regulations.

A startling increase in the cost of airline tickets, with certain routes witnessing an outrageous four-fold increase in pricing, added to the travelers’ problems. With around 1,000 flights canceled, Friday was the worst day for IndiGo flight disruptions.

Domestic airfares to major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru tripled and quadrupled due to the general disarray. For instance, the cost of a nonstop trip from Delhi to Mumbai skyrocketed to Rs 65,460. The cost of one-stop solutions ranged from Rs 38,376 to Rs 48,972.

Additionally, the cost of a one-way, one-stop economy airplane ticket from Kolkata to Mumbai on December 6 was Rs 90,000. Fares between Bengaluru and New Delhi also skyrocketed to Rs 88,000. The administration has operationalized more trains in an effort to lessen the situation.

The government said in its instruction that the goal was to avoid any exploitation of travelers in difficulty and to maintain price discipline in the market.

“The government will keep a careful eye on fare levels using real-time data and proactive cooperation with airlines and online travel agencies. It said, “Any departure from the established standards will result in prompt remedial action.

CANCELLED TODAY: 500 INDIGO FLIGHTS

There were indications that operations were beginning to stabilize on Saturday, one day after the government gave IndiGo a temporary reprieve from enforcing the FDTL regulations. Nearly 500 IndiGo flights had been canceled by the time this story was written, and airport chaos had decreased.

The issue even made it to the Supreme Court, where a petition for intervention over passenger damages resulting from flight suspensions has been submitted.
