In order to stabilize operations following a week of severe delays that left thousands of passengers stranded, the government has ordered a 10% reduction of IndiGo’s itineraries, according to Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu’s announcement on Tuesday.
The minister said in a statement posted on X that passengers all throughout the nation had been greatly inconvenienced by IndiGo’s internal mishandling of personnel rosters, flight schedules, and poor communication. He said the government convened another assessment meeting with IndiGo’s top management to evaluate progress while the investigation into the interruptions is ongoing.
Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, was called back today to give an update on the remedial actions. According to Elbers, all reimbursements for flights impacted up to December 6 have been completed. In order to expedite pending reimbursements and finish the transfer of delayed luggage as soon as possible, the ministry issued severe directives.
The minister stated that the goal of the 10% cut to IndiGo’s total routes is to stabilize the airline’s network and lessen future cancellations. IndiGo must continue to service all of its destinations in spite of the limitation.
Naidu went on to say that IndiGo has been told to strictly abide by all government guidelines, including tariff restrictions and passenger comfort measures.
