According to the meteorological service, the monsoon will not strengthen until September 13; as a result, daily life should return to normal.
With the opening of 74 roads and one national highway in the last day, many have found respite. In Kullu, there are still 824 roads and two national highways blocked, 1480 transformers, and 336 drinking water systems that are not functioning properly.
Weak Monsoon Brings Relief
According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon season will continue to be weak till September 13. Light rain is anticipated in several areas of the state at this time, however.
Because of the poor monsoon, everything should go back to normal. The last 24 hours have seen the opening of 74 roads to traffic and the restoration of one national route. The folks felt a certain amount of relief as a result.
Two National Highways (NH) and 824 roads are blocked in Kullu. Kullu has so far blocked 305 and NH-3. A total of 1480 transformers and 336 drinking water systems are down.
Relief Amid Weather Challenges
The sun came out on Sunday morning after a little rain. As the weather cleared, efforts to reopen the roads and restore the water and electricity supplies accelerated. Nine millimeters of rain fell in Narkanda, seven millimeters in Neri, and five millimeters in Nahan on Sunday.
The ninth day saw the restoration of Shimla-Reckongpeo NH at Nigulsari, close to Kinnaur. On Sunday night, there was a landslide on the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane close to Jhalogi in the Mandi district. Debris fell onto the road, blocking the four-lane from Dwada to Jhalogi. But an hour later it was back in service.
Between 8 p.m. on Sunday and 8 a.m. on Monday, the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane was blocked close to Jhalogi. In the isolated regions of Banjar, Srikot, and Niharni, 78 quintals of ration were air dropped. The Air Force’s MI-17 chopper supplied this ration. Starting on Monday, all trains will operate on the Kalka-Shimla railway route.
