You can do this online (with restrictions) or in person at an Aadhaar Enrollment/Update center if you have changed your marital status and would like your husband’s name to appear on your Aadhaar instead of your father’s.
1. Compile the necessary paperwork
You will need proof of marriage in order to change your name. Accepted documents include the following:
· Certificate of Marriage
· A passport that displays the married name
· Notification in the Gazette (if you legally changed your name)
· PAN card or bank passbook (if inscribed with your husband’s name already)
Make sure your new name appears precisely how you want it to on Aadhaar on all of your documents.
2. Online Name Update Option
The UIDAI Self-service Update Portal (SSUP) allows you to change your name online:
1. Go to https://resident.uidai.gov.in, the official UIDAI website. 2. Enter your Aadhaar number and the OTP that was issued to your registered cellphone number to log in.
Choose “Update Demographics” → Name.
4. Provide a scanned copy of the supporting documentation, such as a passport or marriage license.
5. To facilitate tracking, submit the request and make a note of the Update Request Number (URN).
Important: Your cellphone number must be connected to Aadhaar in order to receive online updates.
3. Aadhaar Center Offline Name Update
At an Aadhaar Enrollment/Update Center, you can update your Aadhaar in person if you would like:
1. Use UIDAI to find the closest center: https://appointments.uidai.gov.in 2. Go to the center using:
o Original records for confirmation
o Your Aadhaar document
A copy of the accompanying documentation
3. Request the name change by completing the Aadhaar Correction Form.
4. Send the executive the form and supporting documentation.
5. To keep track of your update, you will receive an acknowledgment sheet with a URN.
4. Monitor Your Request for Updates
· Visit the UIDAI portal at https://resident.uidai.gov.in/ and enter the URN.
• Aadhaar typically takes 7–15 days to update.
5. Extra Advice
To prevent discrepancies, make sure your married name appears on all official documents, such as your passport, PAN card, and bank account.
· Since OTP verification is required, update your mobile number first if you have changed it.
The acknowledgment slip should always be kept till your Aadhaar is updated.
