According to reports quoted by news agency PTI, IndiGo’s operational problems continued on Friday, leading to the cancelation of almost 160 flights from its main bases in Delhi and Bengaluru airports.
According to reports, 54 flights—31 arrivals and 23 departures—were canceled at the Bengaluru airport, while 105 flights—52 departures and 53 arrivals—were canceled at the Delhi airport. This comes after the airline canceled almost 200 flights between the two airports on Thursday due to difficulties.
On Friday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) constituted a four-member investigative panel, which IndiGo Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers and Chief Operating Officer Isidre Porqueras came before for the second time.
The panel’s job is to determine the underlying reasons for the extensive operational instability at the biggest airline in India. Its mission includes a thorough evaluation of the airline’s personnel planning, the unpredictability of its rostering systems, and its preparedness to apply the most recent pilot duty time and rest regulations, which went into effect on November 1st of this year.
Four Flight Operations Inspectors (FOIs) were fired by the DGCA on Friday in a related enforcement action linked to the carrier’s continuous operational interruptions in Gurugram.
IndiGo selects a company to examine the reasons for flight delays
An independent aviation expert has been appointed by the board of InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of IndiGo, to carry out a thorough root-cause study of the airline’s recent, major flight delays, the board stated on Friday.
The board has formally authorized the choice of Chief Aviation Advisors LLC to carry out the comprehensive evaluation, according to a statement from IndiGo. It is the external firm’s responsibility to start the inquiry right away and provide the board with a thorough report.
“Chief Aviation Advisors LLC, lead by Captain John Illson, seasoned aviation specialist, to undertake an impartial expert evaluation and assessment of the recent operational interruption and the contributing circumstances,” the airline said.
In a video message earlier this week, IndiGo Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta said that the board has decided to bring in outside technical experts to help management discover the fundamental problems causing the operational instability. This action comes after recent internal deliberations.
“In addition to chances for improvement, the purpose is to perform an impartial root cause study of the recent operational interruption,” it said.
The board of InterGlobe Aviation has also created a special Crisis Management Group in response to the significant operational interruptions that started on December 2.
