IndiGo Cancels 1,000+ Flights Amid Operational Reboot

Following the widespread cancellation of IndiGo flights that left hundreds of customers stranded, the Ministry of Civil Aviation stated in a statement that the Government of India has decided to launch a high-level investigation into the disruption.

As pilot rostering problems continued to cause widespread flight cancellations—more than 400 on Friday, December 5, 2025—the operations of India’s biggest airline, IndiGo, collapsed. Many passengers staged demonstrations, others complained about lost luggage, and airports saw chaotic scenes as some IndiGo flights had delays of over 12 hours.

Due to increasing operational problems that affected flight schedules, IndiGo’s on-time performance fell to 8.5% on Thursday. The Civil Aviation Ministry said that it anticipates flight schedules to stabilize by Saturday, December 6, 2025, citing a number of operational procedures that have been implemented to guarantee that regular airline services are resumed as soon as possible.

In the meanwhile, the DGCA has granted IndiGo’s request to exclude pilots from the night-duty limitations. By permitting the replacement of leaves with a weekly rest break, it has also relaxed the flying duty regulations.

The Civil Aviation Ministry sets up a control center to keep an eye on any flight cancellations.

“The Ministry of Civil Aviation has established a 24-hour Control Room (011-24610843, 011-24693963, 096503-91859) that is monitoring the situation on a real-time basis to ensure swift corrective action, effective coordination, and immediate resolution of issues as they arise,” the Ministry said in a statement.

The Civil Aviation Ministry orders airlines to assist passengers by taking corrective action.

The Civil Aviation Ministry has directed airlines to offer frequent and accurate updates via improved online information systems, allowing passengers to check real-time flight status from their homes, in order to assist customers in the wake of widespread delays and cancellations.

The airlines will automatically provide full refunds in the event of any flight cancellations; customers are not required to submit any requests.

The airlines will immediately arrange hotel accommodations for passengers who are stuck as a result of protracted delays.

Senior folks and those with disabilities are given special consideration. They will have access to lounges and all the help they need to make their trip pleasant.

Additionally, all passengers impacted by delayed flights will get refreshments and necessary assistance.
