The corporation-run Smrithipadam crematorium is having trouble getting gas cylinders, and the lack of LPG cylinders has started to interfere with the operation of gas-based crematoriums in Kozhikode.
According to Deputy Mayor S Jayasree, the gas company that supplied the crematorium with cylinders has notified the local authority that it has been told to give domestic customers priority.”We are having trouble getting LPG cylinders.
We will classify the gas needed for cremation as an emergency and assign the requisite cylinders to the company,” she stated. On Wednesday morning, there was just one cylinder accessible at Smrithipadam Crematorium, according to staff members, and it was utilized for a single cremation.
They were able to obtain three more cylinders by the afternoon, but cremation reservations had already been made for the following day. “It will become an issue if we do not obtain enough cylinders,” stated Anandan, a crematorium employee.
According to Jayasree, the company presently runs gas crematoriums in West Hill and Smrithipadam, but maintenance problems have prevented the facilities in Nallalam and Puthiyapalam from operating. She also mentioned that Smrithipadam’s electric crematorium is being repaired and should start up again in two days.
