Nepal Jail Break News: Army Shooting Injures 12 Inmates

According to the Kathmandu Post, the Nepal Army shot 12 to 13 inmates Thursday morning in order to stop a major escape attempt by inmates at the Ramechhap district jail.

Inmates attempting to get out of prison

The Chief District Magistrate of Ramechhap, Nepal, Shyam Krishna Thapa, said that the inmates attempted to break open the main entrance and shattered many interior locks. The security troops then began to fire.

According to reports, the gunfire began as soon as the troops arrived at the gate, injuring around 12–13 detainees. Situated in ward 8 of the Ramechhap Municipality of Nepal, this jail is reportedly home to about 800 inmates. Police verified that the situation is now under control and that all of the inmates have been subdued.

The largest jail break episode in Nepal’s history reportedly included over 15,000 inmates breaking out of over 25 prisons nationwide, according to an early report made public on Wednesday night. Few inmates have willingly returned or have been apprehended by the army again, according to the information available so far.

Following the Gen-Z demonstrations, Nepal PM Oli resigns

In recent years, Nepal has banned 26 social networking applications. The Gen-Z generation vigorously opposed this restriction in the streets. The Parliament House is one of the several government buildings that people have set on fire.

PM KP Sharma Oli resigned as prime minister in the middle of this demonstration. To regulate the situation, the Nepali army has taken over. Conflicts with security personnel have resulted in over 1000 injuries and 30 fatalities. Curfews have been implemented in many towns, including Kathmandu, to manage the situation, and they will last till Friday morning, the Nepali Army said in a statement.
