The Ranchi-Tata NH-33 is currently turning into a deadly highway. 991 persons have died in 352 traffic accidents during the last four years.
Road engineering flaws, hazardous bends, and high speeds are the main causes of accidents. Four-lane construction is not yet complete, roads have been excavated, and the bridge closure has made matters worse.
NH-33 Highway of Death
NH-33 Ranchi-Tata is today known as the “Highway of Death.” Road accidents are destroying hundreds of families every day, yet the issue keeps getting worse because of the government’s and administration’s indifference.
The previous four and a half years have seen 991 fatalities and 635 injuries from 352 traffic incidents, according to statistics. Over the years, 200 individuals have lost their lives in the neighborhoods around the police stations in Bundu, Chandil, Saraikela, and Kharsawan alone.
Delays in Road Projects
High speed, hazardous bends, poor road engineering, a lack of warning signs and indicators on roads, four-lane highways without dividers, a lack of interceptor cars to regulate speed, unfinished four-lane projects, etc. are some of the causes of these collisions.
Road widening has a planned DPR, but construction is moving extremely slowly. For a decade, the four-lane construction has remained unfinished. Because of the many excavations made to the road, there is a higher chance of accidents. The previous nine months have seen the closure of the Chilgu-Shaharbeda bridge due to earth pouring.
Due to compulsive one-way driving, the NH has seen an upsurge in accidents. The road lacks adequate safety precautions. Roadside parking of heavy trucks is disorganized, and there are no signboards or signs at the cut locations. In the evening, there are more accidents. NH-33 is turning into a “slippery road to death” rather than a lifeline for individuals.
