Om Birla to Skip Lok Sabha Till No-Confidence Motion Debate

Om Birla, the speaker of the Lok Sabha, has made the decision to abstain from the House till the outcome of the opposition’s motion of no-confidence against him. Sources claim that until the motion to remove him is considered and decided in the House, he will not take part in the Lok Sabha proceedings.

Om Birla has made the decision to voluntarily abstain from the House even though there is no such requirement under parliamentary rules. He has made it clear that he would not be attending the House, despite possible attempts by the opposition or the administration to convince him, according to sources.

Reports state that on March 9, the first day of the second portion of the Budget Session, the opposition’s resolution to remove the Speaker of the Lok Sabha from office is expected to be addressed. At least fifty Members of Parliament must support this approach.

The presiding officer will then permit a formal discussion of the motion. Prominent sources claim that the Lok Sabha could debate the motion of no-confidence against Om Birla that same day provided the necessary backing is forthcoming.
