PM Unveils ₹100 Coin Featuring Bharat Mata for the First Time

The Rs 100 coin has the national insignia on one side and a powerful picture of Bharat Mata with a lion and the palm extended in the benevolent Varada Mudra on the other.

In honor of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) centennial celebrations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a commemorative coin and special postal stamp on Wednesday. It also has the first-ever representation of Bharat Mata on Indian coinage.

On one side of the Rs 100 coin is the national insignia, while on the other side is a magnificent picture of Bharat Mata in Varada Mudra, which is an offering motion with the palm facing outward, followed by a lion. It depicts Swayam Sevaks kneeling to her in a display of love and commitment.

The phrase “Rashtriya Swaha, Idam Rashtraya, Idam Na Mama,” which means “Everything is committed to the country, Everything is the nation’s, Nothing is mine,” is also printed on the coin.

“This is a moment of immense pride and historical importance as the picture of Bharat Mata appears on Indian currency for the first time in the history of independent India,” Prime Minister Modi said at the unveiling ceremony in Delhi.

The coin’s accompanying postal stamp emphasizes the historic significance of RSS by highlighting its employees’ involvement in the 1963 Republic Day Parade. The event, according to PM Modi, was a proud homage to Bharat Mata and the 100-year history of service and devotion of the RSS.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale attended the cultural ministry’s centennial celebrations.

Keshav Baliram Hedgewar founded the RSS in Nagpur in 1925 as a volunteer organization with the goal of encouraging people’s social responsibility, discipline, service, and cultural awareness. Prior to joining the BJP, which takes its ideological cues from the Hindutva organization, PM Modi was an RSS “pracharak” who established himself as an organizer.

The festivities and announcements also seek to draw attention to the RSS’s social service activities and role in nation-building, from food distribution and blood drives to relief efforts following natural calamities like the Covid-19 outbreak and the floods in Kedarnath and Bihar.
