Rahul Gandhi Visits Flooded Punjab

According to party sources, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will go to Punjab’s flood-affected districts on Monday.

According to the sources on Sunday, Gandhi would spend the day touring flood-affected villages in the districts of Amritsar and Gurdaspur.

During his journey to the state, which is experiencing its worst flood since 1988, Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, will also meet with the families impacted by the flood.

Punjab Faces Worst Floods

One of the biggest flood catastrophes to hit Punjab in decades occurred. The Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers, as well as seasonal rivulets brought on by intense rainfall in their catchment regions in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, were the source of the floods.

In addition, Punjab’s flooding issue has become worse due to heavy rainfall.

There are now 56 people dead as a result of the floods, and 1.98 lakh hectares of crops have washed away.

Modi Announces Flood Relief

Following an airborne reconnaissance of the flood-ravaged districts during his visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inspected the flood situation and damage in Punjab on September 9.

In addition to the Rs 12,000 crore currently in the state’s coffers, he has offered a further Rs 1,600 crore in financial aid for the flood-affected state.

Additionally, Modi declared that the next of kin of the dead would get an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh, and those who were critically wounded in the floods and other natural disasters would receive Rs 50,000.

In order to assess the situation, Union Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan, L. Murugan, and B. L. Verma had already visited the flood-affected districts.
