As he addressed worries about safety at the Kudankulam nuclear power plant on Thursday, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh stated that the atomic energy sector in India operates on the principle of “safety first, production next.”
AIADMK MP M Thambidurai claimed during Rajya Sabha Question Hour that safety issues caused the Kudankulam project to be delayed and questioned how its power is being delivered.
According to Singh, a formula determines the share, with the state keeping 50% of the power, the neighboring states receiving 35%, and the national grid receiving 15%.
The minister added that a lot of concerns about safety stem from “extraneous” and “political” causes.
Such concerns can also occasionally emerge for political or other unrelated causes. This kind of accident has never occurred. “Safety First, Production Next” is the formula we use,” he stated.
We would be storing waste fuel from all other reactors at Kudankulam, which was a point of contention. There was no scientific basis for this,” he continued.
