Cofounder of Info Edge Sanjeev Bikhchandani backed Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal‘s article on gig workers amid the current discussion over the gig economy. Co-founder Hailing Goyal said that “every word” in his message is “real.”
Deepinder Goyal Gig Worker Post & Gig Economy Debate
“Very nicely written, Deepinder Goyal. All of the information is accurate. It is unbelievable that a Champagne Socialist who wed a movie star, had a lavish wedding in Udaipur, and celebrated their first wedding anniversary in the Maldives would then have the gall to cry crocodile tears about alleged gig worker abuse. Bhikhchandani wrote on X, “Aam Aadmi my foot.”
Days after MP Raghav Chadha volunteered to arbitrate between businesses and gig workers during the strike scheduled by gig workers’ unions on New Year’s Eve, December 31, the Info Edge co-founder seconded Goyal’s article.
Gig Workers Strike India 2025 & Political Response

Gig workers are the “backbone of billion-dollar firms and unseen wheels propelling the Digital India drive,” according to Chadha, who emphasized that they should be treated with respect rather than as item-delivering robots with irrational delivery expectations.
Zomato CEO Gig Economy Defense
Deepinder Goyal defended the gig-worker paradigm in a series of postings on X over the course of two days. He maintained that the much-discussed 10-minute delivery guarantee is only feasible in places with a significant concentration of shops near homes.
Goyal said that the gig economy had, for the first time, made the impoverished widely visible in a post on X on January 2. The impoverished are no longer concealed. The delivery partner is delivering your Rs. 1000+ biryani, late-night groceries, or quick-commerce necessities right to your home,” he added.

Strike by Gig Workers & Platform Worker Action
In order to jointly fight for concerns pertaining to the rights, welfare, and dignity of gig and platform workers across India, the Gig and Platform Service Workers Union launched a statewide strike on December 31.
“We respectfully ask all gig workers, platform workers, digital platform workers, app-based workers, and online freelancers to take part in the nationwide strike by disabling all apps connected to their jobs” and refraining from offering services on December 31, 2025, making the strike cohesive and successful.”
