Mother of Today show anchor Savannah Guthrie, Nancy Guthrie, remains unaccounted for almost a week after her disappearance.
The 84-year-old’s relatives notified authorities after she vanished from her Tucson, Arizona, home. When Nancy failed to show up for her usual morning church service on Sunday, February 1, her family reported her missing, saying it was quite unusual for her.
Nancy spent time with her daughter Annie Guthrie and Annie’s husband, Tommaso Cioni, the night before she disappeared. Nancy came home later that evening after the family had dined together.
Nancy was reportedly abducted sometime between late Saturday evening and early Sunday morning, according to investigators.
Evidence of kidnapping at her residence
Nancy was abducted from her home by force, not by choice, according to the police, who discovered evidence of a struggle inside her home.
According to authorities, the kidnapping most likely took place between 10 p.m. on Saturday and 6 a.m. on Sunday.
Media outlets received ransom notes.
Several news outlets received two unsubstantiated ransom notes from someone claiming to be responsible for Nancy’s disappearance. The messages asked for $4 million in Bitcoin by Thursday at 5 p.m. or $6 million by Monday at 5 p.m.
It is unclear if the family paid the ransom or is still awaiting evidence that Nancy is still alive as the deadline has passed.
