Foreign capital inflows drove increases in banking and pharmaceutical stocks, which caused the benchmark Sensex to soar.
On Friday, October 10, 2025, the benchmark Sensex increased by about 329 points due to robust increases in banking and pharmaceutical stocks as well as inflows of foreign funds.
The 30-share BSE Sensex closed at 82,500.82, up 328.72 points, or 0.40 percent. It increased 482.01 points, or 0.58%, throughout the day to reach an intraday high of 82,654.11.
The 50-share NSE Nifty ended the day at 25,285.35, up 103.55 points, or 0.41%. It increased 148.95 points, or 0.59%, during the intraday session to reach a peak of 25,330.75.
Axis Bank, NTPC, BEL, Adani Ports, Eternal, Sun Pharmaceuticals, Power Grid, ITC, UltraTech Cement, Trent, HCL Technologies, Mahindra & Mahindra, State Bank of India, Maruti Suzuki India, and HDFC Bank were the top gainers among the Sensex companies.
However, the laggards were Tata Steel, Tata Consultancy Services, Tech Mahindra, Titan, Bajaj Finserv, Tata Motors, Bharti Airtel, and Bajaj Finance.
“Banking and pharmaceutical firms saw the biggest gains as Indian shares finished higher. Following the government’s invitation of individuals from the private sector to head the State Bank of India, investor sentiment improved, according to Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Investments.
As the U.S. resurrected the Biosecure Act with the goal of severing biotech links with blacklisted foreign corporations, particularly from China, pharmaceutical stocks surged, giving Indian CDMOs a significant boost, Mr. Nair said.
In Asian markets, Seoul’s Kospi closed in the green zone, while Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 index, Shanghai’s SSE Composite index, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index all finished down. European equity markets were seeing a range of trading conditions.
