News from Tata Motors: PB Balaji, the group chief financial officer (CFO) of the firm, has resigned and will leave on November 17. On the same day, PB Balaji will assume leadership of JLR Automotive in the UK as CEO.
On Friday, Tata Motors revealed a number of senior leadership changes. On October 1, Shailesh Chandra has been named the company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

Dhiman Gupta was named Tata Motors’ new CFO after he left, with effect from November 17, the firm said in an exchange filing.
Shailesh Chandra is now in charge as the electric mobility strategist
With effect from October 1, Shailesh Chandra has been named the new Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors. Chandra has played a key role in creating the company’s electric mobility strategy. She is presently the Joint MD of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. He became President of the Electric Mobility Business after joining Tata Motors in 2016 as Head of Corporate Strategy and Business Transformation.
Chandra worked in the Chairman’s Office and Group Strategy at Tata Sons from 2013 to 2016 prior to joining Tata Motors. He holds non-executive directorships on the boards of Tata Technologies, Fiat India Automobiles, and international companies like Trilix S.r.l., Italy, and Tata Motors Design Tech Centre Plc, UK. He is a graduate of Banaras Hindu University with a B.Tech in mechanical engineering and S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research with an executive MBA.
The seasoned CFO, P.B. Balaji, joins JLR
On November 17, Pathamadai Balachandran Balaji, who has served as the Group CFO of Tata Motors since November 2017, would leave his position to assume the role of CEO of Jaguar Land Rover Automotive, UK. Balaji, an eight-year veteran of Tata Motors, is recognized for having led the business through financial reform and restructuring.
Balaji has worked with Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (HUL) for more than 20 years, holding the positions of CFO and Executive Director of Finance & IT. He began as a management trainee in 1993 and went on to hold top positions in supply chain and finance, including time with Unilever in London, Singapore, and Switzerland.
Dhiman Gupta: The recently hired CFO
Dhiman Gupta, who is presently CFO of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., will take over as CFO on November 17. In August 2023, Gupta became the Head of Treasury, Investor Relations, and M&A at Tata Motors. He worked on mergers and acquisitions for Standard Chartered Bank for more than 15 years before this.
Gupta has an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad and a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur. In addition to his new role as CFO, he is a Non-Executive Director on the boards of Tata Motors Design Tech Centre Plc, Fiat India Automobiles, and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. in the UK.
