In Bokaro, DVC has released new guidelines pertaining to smart meters.
It states that the prepaid meter system would provide power to contract workers, bank and post office personnel, school employees, and DVC pensioners.
DVC Prepaid Meter Guidelines
This system will come into effect from 1 September 2025 in which the consumers’ account will start with zero balance. Additionally, DVC has made it clear that after the balancing is finished, power will not be turned off right once.

Amidst the ongoing protests and calls for smart meter installation, the DVC administration has issued a new consumer guideline.
Prepaid Meter Supply System
Contract workers, bank and post office workers, school workers, DVC retirees, and other central and state government personnel will henceforth get LT power supply via a prepaid meter system, DVC has explained.
In compliance with the published order, the prepaid payment system will commence on September 1, 2025. The consumer’s account will have a zero balance at the start of this scheme. At the same time, upon reconciliation at the level of the relevant HOP, the amount of the customers’ past-due bills will be recouped in six equal monthly payments.

Power Supply Safety Measures
DVC has also made it clear that a customer’s power supply would not be cut off right away if his balance unexpectedly runs out.
Nevertheless, the supply will be momentarily cut off if the account is not refunded within this time frame. According to DVC, the purpose of this arrangement is to provide customers with enough time to recharge on schedule.
In addition, after reconciling at their level about the recovery of previous dues, all HOPs are required to provide a monthly MIS report to DVC headquarters. At the administrative level, it has also been stated that signs have been posted to notify customers and that cooperation has been requested.
