Sonia Gandhi Plea Rejected by High Court

Delhi Court Rejects Plea

A court in Delhi has denied a plea to take action against Sonia Gandhi. According to the petition, Sonia Gandhi’s name was on the voter list prior to her obtaining Indian citizenship. The voter list had Sonia Gandhi’s name in 1980, according to lawyer Pawan Narang, and she became a citizen in 1983.

On Thursday, a Delhi court denied a plea to take action against Sonia Gandhi, the head of the Congress. According to the petition, three years prior to Sonia Gandhi obtaining Indian citizenship, her name was on the voter list. Vaibhav Chaurasia, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, denied the plea. We anticipate a comprehensive order.

Dispute Over Voter Eligibility

On September 10, during the hearing of Vikas Tripathi‘s appeal, his attorney Pawan Narang said that Sonia Gandhi’s name was added to the list of voters in the New Delhi seat in January 1980, even though she was not an Indian citizen at the time.

He said that in order to become a resident of a place, you must first meet the requirements for citizenship.

According to Narang, a passport or ration card was most likely used as evidence of residency in 1980. “Why was her name deleted in 1982 if she was a citizen?” he asked.

At that time, the Election Commission had deleted the names of Sonia Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi, who had perished in an aircraft accident. According to Narang, her name was taken from the voter list because the Election Commission must have discovered something incorrect.

Senior attorney Narang informed the court on September 4 that Sonia Gandhi’s name had been added to the New Delhi constituency’s voter list in 1980, taken off in 1982, and then added again in 1983 after she obtained Indian citizenship.

According to the Indian Civil Code‘s Section 175(4) (the magistrate’s authority to order an inquiry), the petition asked the police to look into the claim that Sonia Gandhi became an Indian citizen in 1983 even though her name was on the 1980 voter list.

On Thursday, during the hearing of this case, the petition calling for action against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi was closed. We are waiting for specific details.
