Voters in Tamil Nadu have until Tuesday to change their names on the state’s updated voter list.

Officials plan to finish all outstanding verification work by Tuesday evening in order to publish the final voter list on February 17. It is anticipated that there would be roughly 56.5 million registered voters in Tamil Nadu when the new voter list is finalized.

following thorough ground verification by officials stationed at the polling booths, and the release of the draft voter list on December 19. About 3.4 million people applied to have their names added, changed, or deleted, according to officials. First-time voters, people relocating, and others looking to update personal data like name, address, or photo were among them. Officials, meanwhile, marked a number of entries for additional examination.

About 1.2 million voters whose names were on the draft list but who had not yet turned in the necessary supporting documentation received notices. Within the allotted time, they were required to provide identification and eligibility documentation.

For the purpose of resolving all such complaints by today’s deadline, election officials have now stepped up their ground verification and document collection efforts. To ensure that only eligible voters are on the final list, the ECI has directed personnel to finish the verification process as quickly as possible.
