Tripura Congress MLA Warns BLOs Against Voters’ List Manipulation

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) would be publically “beaten up” if they try to remove the names of any legitimate voters or add any fictitious identities during the upcoming SIR of the state’s electoral records, according to senior Tripura Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Sunday.

Roy Barman stated that the Congress wanted a transparent and error-free electoral roll and would not permit what “had transpired in Maharashtra, Bihar and Haryana” in Tripura while speaking at a training session for the party’s booth-level agents for the planned exercise in Indranagar in Agartala.

“The Congress does not object to the removal of names of deceased voters or foreign nationals from the electoral records, but it will not tolerate any unethical practices such as the inclusion of phony or ghost voters or duplicate or triple names. The Election Commission is responsible for creating accurate election rolls, he stated.

According to Roy Barman, if the BLOs attempt to use any unethical method to add fictitious names to the electoral records, there would be disastrous results.

“Everyone knows everyone in the tiny state of Tripura. He threatened to publicly beat up any BLO who attempted to remove the names of actual voters or add any fictitious names under duress from the ruling party.

Roy Barman later informed reporters that the ruling BJP reportedly sought to halt the training session and stopped decorators from setting up a stage, seats, and loudspeakers.

“We have been able to kick-start the training for the BLAs and booth presidents under open skies despite these limitations,” he stated.

“I hope the ‘leader of good governance’ would take necessary actions concerning this so that we get a fair chance to organize political programmes,” he remarked, addressing Chief Minister Manik Saha.
