US President Trump has demanded that Microsoft’s worldwide affairs president be fired, pointing to revoked security clearances and possible threats to confidential government contracts.
Citing national security concerns, US head Donald Trump has pushed Microsoft Corp. to fire Lisa Monaco, the company’s head of global affairs. Trump has long criticized Monaco, the former US deputy attorney general under President Joe Biden.
He has said that she utilized her position to look into his behavior in her prior post. Trump referred to Monaco as “corrupt and absolutely Trump insane” in a post on Truth Social.
Trump said that Monaco had access to very sensitive information because of her position at Microsoft, which oversees significant federal contracts. Trump emphasized that Lisa Monaco is a “menace to US national security” due to her prior acts, saying, “It is my judgment that Microsoft should immediately terminate the employment of Lisa Monaco.”
Lisa Monaco is who?
Having worked for two Democratic presidents, Joe Biden and Barack Obama, Lisa Monaco has a lengthy career with the US government. From 2021 until 2025, she served as Biden’s 39th deputy attorney general, serving as the second-in-command of the Justice Department.
In addition to having her security credentials withdrawn in February, Trump recently claimed that she has been prohibited from entering government buildings because of “many incorrect conduct.”
Prior to that, from 2013 to 2017, Monaco was an advisor on homeland security and counterterrorism in the Obama administration. She started off in the Justice Department as Attorney General Janet Reno’s counsel before moving on to the District of Columbia as an assistant US attorney.
Monaco, who was born and reared in Massachusetts, graduated from Harvard University with a bachelor’s degree and the University of Chicago Law School with a juris doctor in 1997.
Monaco joined Microsoft in June 2025 as head of global affairs, managing the company’s interactions with governments throughout the globe, after leaving government service.

The US Department of Justice charged former FBI director James Comey on allegations of making false statements and obstructing a congressional process the day before Trump’s demand for Monaco’s dismissal.
Trump has vigorously sought accountability for people and organizations he views as his political rivals since taking office again in January. Actions taken against legal firms, prosecutors, academic institutions, and business executives fall under this category.
Major corporations have also been actively engaged in the Trump administration. In addition to establishing relationships with tech CEOs, like as by bringing Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella to the White House, it recently applied pressure on executives at Intel and Disney.
